Great Tarts in Art: High Culture and the Oldest Profession
Linda Smith
Thursday 23 November 2017

In the course of three lectures, Linda Smith takes a generally light-hearted look at changing attitudes to sexual morality from the 17th to the 20th centuries by examining the portraits and careers of some of history's most notorious mistresses and courtesans.  She also charts the complex and ambiguous attitudes of art and society towards the numerous anonymous working girls at the lower end of the social scale by investigating how they have been represented in art at different times and places.  The day offers an enticing mixture of art, social history and scandalous anecdote.

Linda Smith has two first class degrees in Art History, with a special interest in British Art and Art of the 20th century.  She is an established NADFAS lecturer and experienced guide and lecturer at Tate Britain, Tate Modern and the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Booking begins at the September 2017 Lecture meeting.
