VISIT: Emmett's Garden and Knole House
Thursday 28 September 2017

Emmett's Garden was laid out in its present form in the late 19th century by Frederick Lubbock, whose style was influenced by Gertude Jekyll.  He established an Italianate rose garden, a rock garden and areas to showcase his collection of exotic trees and shrubs.  We have a short stop here for coffee and a pleasant garden walk.

Knole House was originally a bishop's palace, then passed through royal ownership to the Sackville family; its long history has produced a vast collection of tapestries, paintings and furniture. Knole is undergoing a major restoration project and we are going to have a conservation tour "Past into Present", as well as time to walk round individually.  The Brewhouse Cafe is available for lunch and the surrounding parkland, with its herd of wild deer, is open for walks.

Tickets on sale from the May lecture onwards - £25 per person.
